Our website is designed to provide an insight into SMS' expertise. For the past three decades, SMS engagements have helped protect, process, transmit and securely receive information - at all classification levels for the Federal Government.

Founded in 1976, SMS has a long history of providing innovative IT solutions. Our success is defined in terms of teamwork, integrity, expertise and the commitment of our entire work force. I am proud to say that SMS' employee tenure averages 8 years and the management team's average is 20.7 years.

Here are just a few of our major milestones:

• The first mass deployment of office automation using personal computers to the United States Army in 1985 via an Indefinite Delivery Quantity (IDIQ) contract.
• The introduction of the first Cisco router to the Department of Defense.
• Building of the first Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network in the Washington Metropolitan area.
• The first use of the word "internet" to refer to a computer network appeared in the Washington Post on September 26, 1988. The entire reference: "SMS Data Products Group, Inc. in McLean won a $1,005,048 contract from the Air Force to supply a defense data network internet protocol router."
