The number of security violations to a network - both external and internal - continues to grow everyday. More than ever, information security is one of the most important aspects of network architecture and engineering. New technology must be fluid, constantly evolving to keep up with and anticipate the actions of modern-day hackers, viruses and other intrusive users and programs.
The task of an SMS Security Specialist is to maintain integrated solutions and security policies that give access only to authorized users. To ensure information integrity within a network, Defense-in-Depth begins at the perimeter with firewalls, proxies and IDS/IPS, both signature-based and anomaly-based. Security measures continue at the core of the network with internal firewalls which compartmentalize and protect sensitive internal network assets. IDS sensors at the core are positioned to detect insider threats and compromised hosts. Finally, host-based measures are deployed to restrict traffic to only that which is functionally necessary. Hardened host configurations and strict patch-management along with host-based firewalls, IDS, and managed anti'virus protect hosts against intrusions and unauthorized configuration changes. All alerts are centrally managed for a single real-time view of the network's security status.
Although good security begins with a solid security policy, SMS's strengths lie in providing the systems and engineers with the ability to implement that policy and detect and report any violations. Our Security Specialists have designed, implemented and operated high-capacity firewalls, intrusion detection systems and virtual private networks (VPNs) for enterprise-class military and government networks. In addition, all of SMS's active network designs include an in-depth security review by our Security Specialists. These same engineers are on call and can respond to any security situation. Our Security Specialists routinely and actively manage, trouble shoot and secure large enterprise networks.
